Ontario care guide
Some mental health services are publicly funded, while many private counselling and psychotherapy appointments have separate fees. Coverage depends on the setting and provider.
Medically necessary physician care and certain services delivered through publicly funded teams, hospitals or programs may be covered. A private psychotherapy or counselling appointment is not automatically an OHIP-insured service.
Workplace benefits may have separate coverage for psychologists, psychotherapists or social workers. These professions may be listed under different benefit categories.
Ask whether the appointment is publicly funded, its full private fee if applicable, the clinician's regulated title and whether a receipt can be used for benefits reimbursement.
